All seminars hosted by Brendan Davies (4 time TNF100 Top 5 including 2013 Champion) and his team of coaches.

All seminars will cater for athletes in either the UTA50 or UTA100 and will include a dedicated last half hour for Q & A

Seminar - Injury Prevention & Performance for Runners - Part 1

Hosted by Aspire Health and Rehabilitation’s Megan Gaudry, ‘Injury Prevention and Performance for Runners’, is a 3 part series focused on common running injuries, their prevention and management and practical workshops aimed specifically for distance runners.

Topics covered in Seminar 1 will be:
1. How common running injuries occur
2. Common injuries, prevention and management – ankle and shank (includes equipment introduction and demonstration)
3. Choosing the right shoe for you
4. Running style and injuries (the different foot strikes, barefoot/ minimalist shoes explained)

Participants are encouraged to bring in their shoes so they can assess the appropriateness of their own shoes in the ‘choosing the right shoe’ section of the night.

There will also be practical elements incorporated into the prevention and management of injures element of the evening.

The night will end with an Q and A. Handouts will be provided. Guests are encouraged to pose their questions regarding any of the topics in the event page prior to the night.

About your host: Megan is a dual-qualified Accredited Exercise Physiologist and Physiotherapist with a Bachelor of Exercise Science and a Masters of Clinical Exercise Physiology degree from the Australian Catholic University. She also has Masters of Physiotherapy degree from the University of Sydney.

Seminar - Getting To Know Your Gadgets

This is the next in our series of seminars hosted by UP Coaching.

The second ‘Getting To Know Your Gadgets’, is a seminar focused on knowing your running watch and how to best utilise its features to optimise your training and racing.

Topics covered to the whole group:
– An explanation briefly how GPS operates and why some readings are different according to different watches.
– Why they aren’t 100% accurate on a running track.
– Overview of how watches be beneficial in your training and racing.
– Benefits of HR straps and assessing training/using HR zones
– Explanation of ‘lap’ function
– To pause or not to pause during workouts
– When to use autolaps and when not to

The second half of the evening will be more of a workshop with the groups splitting according to whether they are a Garmin or Suunto user. Coach Graham will work with the Garmin users and Coach Stephane will work with Suunto users. Coach Brendan will give input to both groups.

Functionality covered in the groups:
– Creating Custom Screens to suit training sessions, e.g. trail, road, adding the time of day to a field etc
– Viewing session history
– Pairing with phone/Apps etc
– How to set alerts to alerts, e.g. fartlek sessions, basic intervals, long runs e.g. nutrition alerts
– How to upload a GPX file (such as one created on Strava route maker) to follow course e.g. in a race

Both groups will then go through some practical scenarios
Workshop activities will include how to set up:
– Workouts, setting up an interval session etc
– Progressive Runs
– Fartleks
– Ghost runners
– Set up a target, e.g. Tempo session pace

The night will end with Q and A

Handouts with steps will be provided. Guests are encouraged to bring their devices on the night.

For Distant Coached Athletes and for those not able to attend in person, there is a ‘Webinar’ option available where participants may view and participate in the discussion over the internet.

Seminar - Nutrition Basics for Runners

This is the first in our series of seminars on Runners Nutrition hosted by UP Coaching.

Ther first, Fundamentals of Sports Nutrition, is a seminar focused on nutrition for the runners’ body!

The topics covered will include macro and micronutrients, overview of popular supplements and dietary challenges. We will discuss energy and fluid requirements and ideal fat, carbohydrate and protein intakes before, during and after exercise!

Please come and join us for an discussion on nutrition and athletic performance presented by Jennifer Moulin. Jennifer is a Personal Trainer and Nutritionist with a degree in Nutritional Medicine and specialises in supporting active lifestyles with a wholefood diet. Through her business ProActive Nutrition, Jennifer has helped many endurance athletes acheive optimum performance offering specific and inidividualised nutritional plans.

UP Coaching’s Brendan Davies and Jo Brischetto host multi day trail running weekends at the beautiful Lake Crackenback Resort and Spa located in the stunning NSW Snowy Mountains.

6 Foot Track Training Days

BOTH TRAINING DAYS ARE FULL!

The training day (same event on both dates) are tailored specifically for participants of the 6 Foot Marathon trail event in March. Brendan, who has run the race 4 times, including a 2nd place finish in 2011, will provide all participants with a mentored training run on part of the 6 Foot Track course (approx 20-25km). This will include skills sessions along the way for tips on how to best tackle technical trail and the uphills and downhills.

All ability levels are catered for, as ability grouping will be utilised. All groups will be led by a coach and a sweeper.

Post run, participants can freshen up at the Katoomba Aquatic Centre before reconvening for a series of seminars over lunch at a venue where topics such as planning your 6 Foot training, hydration and nutrition and race day strategy will be covered. Handouts and discount vouchers will be supplied.
